Portlet Factory, Version 6.1.2

About the model editor

IBM® WebSphere Portlet Factory Designer uses several panels in the editor area of the WebSphere Portlet Factory perspective to create and develop models for a web application.

Use the Project Explorer or Model Navigator to access and open a model in the model editor.

You can use the panels in the model editor to understand the effect of a builder call on the model, to change builder calls, or to examine the relationships among elements within the model. The panels include:

Application Tree

This panel displays under the WebApp folder all the elements that builder calls have created and added to the model. This includes data services, Events, linked Java objects, methods, pages, variables, schemas and more. By navigating to and selecting an object, you can examine the object and its contents.

The WebApp tree is updated each time the model is regenerated.

Pages

This panel provides alternate representations of pages and forms in the model. Use the Large Icon format to more readily locate a particular page or form.

Source

This panel displays source code related to objects in the model and provides useful information about the source code itself.

Design

This panel shows a visual representation of a visible element that is selected in either the Application Tree or Pages. This panel lets you quickly and conveniently see visible elements in your model without having to run the model.

Model XML

This panel displays the underlying XML code for the model. This panel is useful for developers who are creating builders.

Builder Call Editor

This panel displays the editor used to configure or change a builder call in the model.

  • About the Application Tree

The Application Tree lists generated elements in the open model selected in the editor area.

  • About using the builder call editor

The builder call editor allows you to specify all the input values to a builder call.

  • Builder call list

The builder call list contains all the builder calls that define your model.

  • Working with the Design and Pages panels

The Design and related Pages panels in the model editor provide a graphic representation of visual elements in a builder.

  • Working with the Source panel

The Source panel in the model editor shows the application code that is associated with a generated element that is selected in the Application Tree, in the Design or Pages panel, or with a selected builder call in the Outline view.

  • Model editor popup menu

The popup menu in the model editor (that is, in the Application Tree, the Pages panel, and the Design panel) shows in the current context both the builder that created the selected object and available builders that can modify the selected generated element.

  • The Model XML panel

The Model XML panel in the model editor displays the XML for the model as it is saved on disk.
