Migration tools, located in...

WAS_HOME/bin

...will...

  1. Save the configuration and applications from a previous version of the product into a migration-specific backup directory
  2. Import that configuration into the latest version of the application server

Migration wizard GUI to the primary v8.0 migration tools: WASPreUpgrade and WASPostUpgrade. Cannot run in a non-graphical environment such as telnet sessions.
WASPreUpgrade Save application and configuration data from a previous installation of WAS to a backup directory. The WASPostUpgrade tool restores the configuration data from the directory to the new installation. Available on the migration disk so we can store the configuration of an existing release before installing WAS v8.
WASPostUpgrade Restore the configuration data from a previous release. Reads the data from the backup directory where the WASPreUpgrade tool stored the data.
clientUpgrade Upgrade client applications to a new release level.
convertScriptCompatibility Convert their configuration from a mode that supports backward compatibility of v6.x or 7.x administration scripts to a mode that is fully v8.0.
convertSelfSignedCertificatesToChained Use with wsadmin.sh to convert self-signed certificates to chained certificates, which are the default certificate type in WAS v8.0.
