Install Installation Manager

  1. Download the latest version of Installation Manager

  2. Extract the installation kit to a temporary location.

  3. Install as an administrator, non-administrator, or group

    • As an administator:

        cd /path/to/IM_installation_kit
        ./install

    • As a logged-in user

        cd /path/to/IM_installation_kit
        userinst

    • For users who use group mode

        cd /path/to/IM_installation_kit
        ./groupinst

  4. Use the Installation Manager Install wizard to continue.

We can install Installation Manager silently or using console mode.

Use Installation Manager without installing

Use Installation Manager to install a package without installing Installation Manager on our computer.

  1. Download the latest version of Installation Manager.

    Go to the Installation Manager download links technical document and click the applicable download document link. The download document contains details about downloading the installation files.

  2. Extract the installation kit to a temporary location.

  3. Make a backup copy of the install.ini file.

    For a nonadministrator installation, make a backup copy of userinst.ini. For group installation on Linux, UNIX, and OS X platforms, make a backup copy of groupinst.ini. For information about installation modes or silent installations, see Install as an administrator, nonadministrator, or group.

  4. Open the install.ini file with a text editor and remove the following line:

      input @osgi.install.area\install.xml

  5. Start the installation:

      ./install

  6. Use the Installation Manager Install wizard to continue installing a package.


Windows 7 character limit

The 64-bit version of Microsoft Windows 7 has a character limit on the file path to the Installation Manager image. If we double-click the install.exe file for Installation Manager in a path that is 159 - 163 characters, the following message is displayed:

When the path length exceeds 163 characters, the following error message is displayed:yes

For best results, use a path that contains fewer than 150 characters.


Start installation with the launchpad (Windows)

  1. cd /path/to/product_installation_kit

  2. Double-click launchpad.

    Some products use launchpad to open the main window of Installation Manager, some products open the Install wizard in Installation Manager, and other products require setting a repository connection before proceeding with a wizard.

    If wer product requires you to add repository, select the diskTag.inf file in the installation kit.

  3. Use the Install, Update, Modify, Roll Back, or Uninstall wizards in Installation Manager to continue.


Start a product installation with an executable program

  1. cd /path/to/product_installation_kit

  2. Run the executable program or other type of installation kit that the product installation kit contains. Installation Manager opens.

  3. Use the Install, Update, Modify, Roll Back, or Uninstall wizards in Installation Manager to continue.


Start from an installed version of Installation Manager to access the product installation kit in a common repository

A common repository location contains the product installation kit. The kit can be obtained from a product download or copied from a disk.

  1. Start Installation Manager.

  2. Add a repository by specifying the location of the directory, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, .jar, or .zip files containing the diskTag.inf or repository.config files.

  3. Use the Install, Update, Modify, Roll Back, or Uninstall wizards in Installation Manager to continue.
