Adding frame pages to a Web site

You can add a Web page that uses frames to a Web site by adding it to the navigation of the site in Web Site Designer.

Prerequisites:

  1. Create a Web project.

  2. Create a Web site.

Tip: The recommended way for maintaining consistency throughout a site is to use the page template provided in the Site Designer tools. Web Site Designer is provided to edit the look and feel of the whole Web site. By using a page template, look and feel can be made consistent throughout a site. The page template contains the Web Site Navigation (such as the navigation bar, navigation trail, and navigation menu), that is created using the Site Designer tools. You can also view the Web site in a Navigation view to add new pages, delete pages and move pages in the site.

You cannot enable a page that uses frames with Site Designer. To add a Web page that uses frames to a Web site:

  1. In the Navigation view, decide where the Web page you are adding fits in the Web site's organization.
Restriction: You cannot add a page that contains a frame set tag. You can add one of the pages that appears in the content frame of the Web site designed using frames.

  2. Right-click where you want to attach the new page, either on a page icon or anywhere in the Navigation pane and select Add Existing Pages. The Add Existing Pages window opens.

  3. If you did not select a page icon before invoking the pop-up menu, select a top page before you can add pages.

    1. In the Top page field of the Select a Top Page page of the wizard, select the top page for the page that you are adding.

    2. If the selected page contains links to other Web pages, use the Add linked pages option to add those pages as well. Web Site Designer will follow the links that already exist to add pages up to the link depth specified. For example, if you set a depth limit of 1 to 3, all pages within 3 links of the top page will be included. Setting the link depth at No limit ensures that all of the linked pages are added.

A thumbnail of the current selection is displayed, as well as the page's title and location.

    3. Click Next. The Add Existing pages to Web Site page of the wizard displays.

  4. If you selected a page icon before invoking the pop-up menu, the Add Existing pages to Web site page of the wizard displays.

  5. Select as many other existing Web pages as you want to add by using the Add Other Pages button to select files. If the selected Web page contains links to other Web pages, use the Add Linked Pages option to add those pages as well.

  6. Click Finish to add the existing page to the Web site.
