Configure the consumer direct sample store

When you publish the consumer direct sample store, many optional features are enabled. For example, there is a field on the store's Registration page that asks customers to specify their gender. If you do not want this field to be displayed in the store, you can remove it through the Change Flow notebook.

You can change the following aspects of the store flow:

    Registration

    Option Description When to use Implications Enabled by default
    Enable preferred language Allows customers to select the language in which the store displays. The store is available in more than one language. Ensure that product descriptions and names are entered for every language that the store supports. Yes
    Enable preferred currency Allows customers to select the currency in which product and SKU prices display. Customers can purchase merchandise in more than one currency. Ensure that currency exchange rates are set for all supported currencies.

    To set exchange rate, add entries in the CURCONVERT table. Alternatively, enter the product prices in all supported currencies.

    Collect age information Adds a question on age to the registration and change personal information pages. The store uses marketing campaigns that target customers based on age. The store creates campaigns. Yes

    Catalog

    Include search in the store Provides customers with the option to search the store catalog. The store catalog is large enough that searching the catalog based on keywords would be helpful. None. Yes
    Include quantity selection Adds a quantity selection box to the product, prebuilt kit, or bundle page. To enable customers to select the quantity when adding these items to the shopping cart. If this field is disabled, customers can change the quantity on the Checkout page. Yes
    Display product only Select this to display the product; otherwise all SKUs under the product are also displayed. Not applicable. None. Yes


    Orders

    Option Description When to use Enabled by default
    Shop total Allows customers to see the current value of their order, and the number of items in the shopping cart, without going to the Shopping Cart page. The shopping total is displayed in the sidebar, therefore, it can be seen on all store pages. Not applicable. Yes
    Quick order Allows customers to enter a SKU to order an item quickly. The item is added to the shopping cart. Use quick order when customers are likely to know the SKU numbers. For example, if the store sends out paper catalogs the customer could simply enter the SKU number, as printed in the catalog, on the Quick Order form. No
    Include wish list Allows customers to maintain a list of items that they would like to order in the future. Customers can also send their wish list to family and friends using e-mail. Not applicable. Yes


    Checkout

    Enable future orders Provide customers with the option of specifying a future ship date for items in their orders. None Yes
    Enable shipping instructions Let customers provide specific shipping instructions for items in their orders. None Yes
    Quick checkout Allows registered customers to complete an order by using shipping and billing information that has already been defined in the quick checkout profile. To use, customers must first create a quick checkout profile, which includes entering billing and shipping addresses, shipping method, and payment information. Yes
    Single or multiple shipping addresses per order Allows customers to ship all items in an order to a single address, or to ship items within an order to multiple shipping addresses. If this option is disabled, customers can only ship an order to a single address. Yes
    Single or multiple shipping methods per order Allows customers to ship all items in an order using a single shipping method, or to ship items within an order using multiple shipping methods.     Order status

    Option Description When to use Implications Enabled by default
    Track Order Status Allows customers to track the status of their order. For example, customers can see if an order is still waiting approval, is already processed, or is scheduled to be processed. If the store will update the order status during payment authorization, capture and fulfillment. If you use WebSphere Commerce Payments this field will show the current status. If the store does not update the order status, this field should be disabled since the value that it displays may be misleading to customers. No
    Show shipment tracking URL A shipment tracking URL allows customers to track the shipment status of their order by linking to the appropriate shipping provider's Web site. If the store enters tracking URLs for orders shipped to customers. Enter tracking URLs when shipping providers and methods are set up.
