Create an e-mail activity


Overview

Create e-mail activities to deliver brand and promotional messages to customers.


Create an e-mail activity

  1. Define the following for the store:

  2. Configure the e-mail accounts that the e-mail activity system uses.

    E-mail configuration defines the required information about...

    • mail servers
    • time that e-mail activities should be sent
    • policy for resending undelivered e-mails

  3. Open the Marketing tool.

  4. From the toolbar, click...

      New | E-mail Activity

    The E-mail Activities properties page displays.

  5. Enter the e-mail template properties...

    Option Description
    Name Type a name for the e-mail activity. This is displayed in the Activity list.
    Description Type a description for the e-mail activity.
    Customer segment Select a customer segment for sending the e-mail activity. You can either enter the customer segment name and click Find and Add , or click the Show utilities view icon to open the utilities view, and then search or browse for the appropriate customer segment.

    If you are using the extended sites model, and are currently in the extended site store, you can select a customer segment from either the asset store the extended site store.

    You can see if a customer segment belongs to the asset store by the small up arrow added to the customer segment icon , or by looking at the Store column in the list view. If you are logged in to an asset store, the customer segment can only come from the asset store.

    E-mail Template You can either...

    • Enter the e-mail template name and click Find and Add ,

    • Click the Show utilities view icon to open the utilities view, and then search or browse for the appropriate e-mail template

    If you are using the extended sitesmodel, and are currently in the extended site store, you can select an e-mail template from either the asset store or the extended site store. You can see if an e-mail template belongs to the asset store by the small up arrow added to the e-mail template icon , or by looking at the Store column in the list view. If you are logged in to an asset store, the e-mail template can only come from the asset store.

    Reply-to e-mail address By specifying different e-mail addresses for replies to different activities or campaigns, you can track interest in those specific activities.
    Send date Date on which to send the e-mail activity.
    Send time Time when the e-mail activity will be sent. The site administrator configures this value. If it is missing, e-mail activities have not been configured.
    Campaign Select the campaign to which this activity belongs. You can either enter the campaign name and click Find and Add, or click the Show utilities view icon to open the utilities view, and then search or browse for the appropriate campaign.

    If you are using the extended sites model, and are currently in the extended site store, you can select a campaign from either the asset store or the extended site store.

    You can see if a campaign belongs to the asset store by the small up arrow added to the campaign icon , or by looking at the Store column in the list view. If you are logged in to an asset store, the campaign can only come from the asset store.

  6. Click Save and close to save the e-mail activity.


Results

The e-mail activity is created in the Inactive state.


What to do next

You must activate the activity before the resulting e-mail can be delivered to customers.
