Configure SIP timers

We can configure SIP timers to set values for the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) timers that are different from default values specified in RFC 3261. SIP timers provide a mechanism for session expiration. The default values are the same as those specified for RFC 3261.

Ensure that clusters and stand-alone servers are created and federated.

We can set values for the SIP timers from the administrative console.

If we have already used the custom properties to specify a value for a SIP timer, the custom property value is the primary value. Therefore, the SIP timer value specified from the administrative console is not used.

Procedure

  1. From the administrative console...

    Servers > server_name

    > SIP container > SIP stack > SIP timers.

  2. Specify a value for a timer by clicking the Use Custom Value check box beside the timer.

  3. Specify a value for the timer in the Value column.

  4. Click OK.

  5. Restart the application server.

Results

The container uses the times specified in the administrative console and not the RFC defaults.
