For WebSphere MQ foreign buses an MQ link is implemented at run time by establishing sender and receiver channels between the messaging engine and an MQ queue manager.

To a messaging engine configured with an MQ link, the MQ queue manager appears to be a foreign bus. To the MQ queue manager, the messaging engine appears to be another MQ queue manager, with a virtual queue manager name. The MQ queue manager is unaware that it is communicating with a messaging engine.

The name specified for the foreign bus does not need to match the name of the target MQ queue manager. However, specifying a name for the foreign bus that matches the target MQ queue manager simplifies the routing of messages across the link.
