Choose the type of installation
The typical installation option...
- installs the software
- configures a stand-alone Process Center or Process Server profile
A typical installation does not require you to create profiles separately using PMT or manageprofiles.
The custom installation can be performed interactively, or by choosing a silent installation.
If you use the custom installation, you must either...
- Run configureNode
- Use pmt.sh or manageprofiles to configure a stand-alone profile, or one or more dmgr and managed node profiles
After profile creation, you can use the deployment environment wizard to generate a pattern-based ND configuration.
The Interactive Installation and Configuration Guide is a tool for generating a set of installation and configuration topics customized to your precise installation needs.

Custom installation
Choose custom installation for the following reasons:
- To install on an existing installation of WebSphere Application Server.
- Your deployment environment requires additional cluster nodes.
- Your business requires complex deployment environment and database topologies.
