Use page-based access control with Web content pages

Use page-based access control to delegate access control of content items to the web content page used to display the content. When page-based access control is enabled for a site area associated with a web content page, a user who is authorized to view the page is also automatically authorized to view all content under the site area that is associated with the page.

Because Web Content Management is not required to perform additional access control checks when page-based access control is enabled, rendering performance is improved and security administration is simplified. Context processor plug-in note: Context processor plug-ins used with the JSR 286 web content viewer run in the access control context of the initial page request. Changes made to the rendering context by context processor plug-ins that might affect whether page-based access control is enabled are evaluated after all other context processor plug-ins have completed their configuration.

  1. To enable page-based access control, ensure that the Web content page is associated with a site area or folder in the Web content system.

You can do this when creating the page with the New Page from button in Manage Pages, or you can edit the page properties and select a folder in the Web Content field under Advanced options.

  2. Select View access to this page shall imply view access on all resources contained in web_content_library/folder. If the user creating the page does not have sufficient permissions to enable page-based access control, the check box is disabled. The following access rights are required:

    • Administrator @ wcm_library, where wcm_library represents the library containing the content that is mapped to the Web content page.

    • Administrator @ CONTENT_MAPPINGS

    • Editor @ wcm_page, where wcm_page represents the Web content page for which you want to enable page-based access.
