Development tools for process integration

Verify that the supported versions of required software products are available for your development team to use in the integrated WebSphere Portal and WebSphere Process Server environment.

Product Purpose User
IBM Rational Application Developer

Provides wizards and tools for developing portlets.

Can be set up on the same machine as WebSphere Integration Developer. Depending on the versions, they can also share the same workbench.

Portlet Developer

Develops the custom task processing and process initiation portlets and any other portlets required by the business process application.

WebSphere Integration Developer

Provides the Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) process editor used to define business processes. Includes a runtime environment for testing and debugging business processes. Can directly generate specific task processing portlets for individual human task from within the business process definition.

Can be set up on the same machine as IBM Rational Application Developer. Depending on the versions, they can also share the same workbench.

Process Designer

Defines the business process, including the control and data flow, the structure of the input and output messages for tasks, and the semantics of the activities (human tasks) contained in the process. The process designer can also optionally define a Client UI identifier for those human tasks to be displayed on specific task pages in WebSphere Portal.

WebSphere Portal integrated with WebSphere Process Server

Provides the portal framework for users to view and manage the installed and deployed business process applications. The portal framework consists of integrated pages and portlets for working with process templates, process instances, task templates, and task instances.

Portal Administrator

Uses portal administrative tools to configure business process integration, modify the integrated configuration, and work with task pages, including setting up and maintaining the hierarchy of pages and the portlets deployed on each portal page.
