Integrate with WebSphere Process Server
IBM WebSphere Portal is an effective framework in which to view and manage the human tasks that are related to business process applications, particularly if your enterprise requires a process portal for service-oriented architecture (SOA). WebSphere Portal uses the functionality provided by IBM WebSphere Process Server to integrate business process applications into the pages of the portal.
Integrating business processes into WebSphere Portal allows you to work with business process applications developed with IBM WebSphere Integration Developer and controlled by IBM WebSphere Process Server.
After you set up business process integration, log in to WebSphere Portal and click Process Integration to display the My Processes and My Tasks pages. Using the portlets on these pages, you can view and manage elements of business process applications directly in the portal environment: process templates, process instances, task templates, and task instances.
In addition to the process integration portlets, WebSphere Portal provides the concept of task pages, which allow you to define custom portal pages for rendering individual human tasks contained in a business process application.
Task pages can be tailored to contain dedicated portlets that provide the actual user interface for business users when they work on their tasks. The specific task pages associated to the individual human tasks are dynamically instantiated when users navigate to their tasks using the Task List portlet. Starting with this version, WebSphere Portal also provides a default task page that is automatically used by all tasks that do not contain an explicit reference to a specific task page in portal.
As a prerequisite to working with business process applications in the portal environment, you should have a working knowledge of portlet development and some familiarity with IBM WebSphere products for Business Process Management.
