Administer transactions

A transaction is a set of operations that are performed on data and that must run as a single unit. These operations change data from one state to another, and the transaction monitor ensures the state change is consistent. For more information about transactions, see Transactional processing with WebSphere Application Server in the Application development topic.

These topics provide information about administering transactions with the administrative console:

Manage active transactions
Under normal circumstances, transactions run and complete automatically. In some situations, however, you might need to manually complete a transaction. This topic describes how to use the administrative console to complete a transaction.

Force transaction outcomes
If severe problems occur with a transaction, you might need to manually end a transaction. This topic describes how to force a transaction to one of several possible outcomes.

Configure transaction properties for an application server
This topic explains how to configure the transaction properties for an application server, including defining the location of the directory that contains the transaction log and changing the default timeouts associated with transactions.
