Transcoding Technology features

This product includes Transcoding Technology to ensure that the portal content is always rendered correctly. Transcoding Technology enables you to make Web-based information available to users of handheld and other pervasive devices economically and efficiently.

Overview

Transcoding Technology modifies content presented to users based on the information associated with the request, such as device constraints and organizational policies. This transformation of information from one form to another is the central idea behind transcoding, a technology particularly suited to bridging the gaps between the variety of data formats encountered on the Web and the devices comprising them. Use Transcoding Technology to configure any portlet for mobile employees. For more information about transcoding, refer to the Transcoding section of this information center.

Transcoding portal content

Transcoding Technology provides a number of features to enhance your portlets for viewing on mobile devices. Once you configure your portlets to use transcoding, you can use extensible style sheets and annotation. For more information about using transcoding with your portlets, refer to the Adapting portlets topic.
