Deprecated feature: The partitioning facility (WPF) feature is deprecated. You can configure partitioning with WebSphere eXtreme Scale.

Compatibility with WebSphere Extended Deployment v5.1

This section describes the compatibility issues if you have applications coded for WebSphere Extended Deployment v5.1 or v6.0.

WebSphere Extended Deployment v5.1 partitioned applications are not supported on WebSphere Extended Deployment for z/OS v6.0.1.

If you have applications coded for WebSphere Extended Deployment v5.1, the alias partitioning feature can be run in WebSphere Extended Deployment v6.0 without affecting those applications. Applications coded for WebSphere Extended Deployment v6.0 with partition alias will fail in v5.1 with a NO_IMPLEMENT exception.

Clients can still be routed according to partition name, though. Partition alias is just another way to route, also allowing for customer grouping of partitions.

A sample WPFPartitionAliasSample.ear is provided to show how the partition alias works. Another sample, WPFMixedPartitionSample.ear, is provided to show how an application can work in partitions without an alias and partitions with aliases at the same time.
