Workspaces commit and publish options

With workspaces, you have several options for the committing of data to the production-ready data and the publishing of data to the production server: quick publish, scheduled commit, regular commit, and global publish.

Quick publish

When all tasks are completed and, if necessary, approved, in a task group marked as quick publish, the task group data is committed to the production-ready data. When the task group commit completes successfully, the task group data is published to the production server.

If the task group commit fails, the publishing of data to the production server does not occur.

If the publish to the production server fails, the task group data remains committed to the production-ready data. The changes to the production-ready data from the task group commit can be published to the production server using the stagingprop utility.

This is a useful tool for correcting errors immediately.

Quick publish is not supported in WebSphere Commerce Developer.

Scheduled commit

Workspaces Administrators can select to schedule when the task group data is committed to the production-ready data. This allows the business team to complete all site campaign and content changes, review and approve everything in advance and schedule the collection of changes to go to the production-ready data at a predetermined date and time.

The task group commit occurs at the earliest time after the date and time set when scheduling the commit.

Regular commit

For task groups not marked as quick publish and not scheduled commit, a task group commit occurs after all tasks in the task group completed and, if required, the task group is approved.

Global publish

Production-ready data is published to the production server using the stagingprop utility, while managed files are published using the fileprop utility.
