Install > Install WebSphere Commerce > Prepare to install WebSphere Commerce

Pre-install checklist

  1. Stop Lotus Notes servers, Web servers, Java application servers, and any nonessential Java processes.

  2. Ensure that no other install programs are active. Ensure the install programs are completed or manually stop them.

  3. Review the WebSphere Commerce README file.

  4. For Linux, ensure the firewall configuration is set to permissive. If not set to permissive, a problem might be encountered when installing DB2.

  5. For *nix, create the user IDs and groups required by WebSphere Commerce on any machine on which you plan to install WebSphere Commerce.

  6. For Windows, if you have removed DB2, WAS and its plug-in, or IBM HTTP Server from the system and you want the installation wizard to install them in the same location where they were installed earlier:

    1. Back up any files from the directories to keep.

    2. Delete the directories. The directories will be recreated during the installation.

You must specify a nonexistent directory before you can continue with the installation.

  7. Ensure the Windows administration user ID under which the installation is performed is not the same as the host name of the machine.

For example, for a machine with a host name of ABhost, the administration user ID under which the installation is performed should not be ABhost.

  8. Disable any active antivirus software. Antivirus software might interfere with the installation wizard when you change DVDs in the DVD-ROM drive.

  9. If you have any applications running, stop them.

  10. Stop any database servers on the system except the one you plan to use with WebSphere Commerce.

  11. If you have a Web server or any other service on the machine that is currently using any of the following ports: 80, 443, 5432, 5433, 8000, 8001, 8002, 8004, 8006, or 8007, stop the Web server.

  12. Verify the host name of the Web server machine does not contain an underscore ( _ ).

  13. Uninstall Microsoft IIS if you no longer need it or stop the following services:

    • IIS Admin Service

    • World Wide Web Publishing Service

    • Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP)

Set these services to disabled, rather than manual or automatic so that the services do not start when you restart the system.

  14. For *nix, verify the operating system does not log the command line inputs.

By default some operating systems log the commands and parameters that are entered through a command line. This log file is not deleted when the user logs off and may be a security risk.

  15. Transfer installation files to a Linux for xSeries machine.
