Add widgets to the Community

Overview

We can add the following types of widgets to communities:

You must be a Community owner to add or remove widgets from a Community.

Widgets are self-contained, HTML-based representations of software applications. When adding an IBM Connections widget to a Community, we create an association between that Community and the widget application. Membership between the Community and the widget application is synchronized, and links to the full widget application are created in the Community so that we can find and work with the full application. A summary of the latest activity is posted on the Community's Overview page, and we can access the full application at any time by clicking the corresponding link in the Community navigation bar.

When we first create a Community, it displays the following widgets by default: Recent Updates, Status Updates, Forums, Bookmarks, Files, and Members. We can customize the Community by adding extra widgets. For example, adding the Wiki widget gives members access to a wiki where they can share files and collaborate on project documents. Adding the Blog widget lets us create a blog . The content palette displays the full selection of widgets the administrator makes available for use in communities.

Add a widget to the Community

  1. Log in to Connections and open a community to which you have Owner access.

  2. From the Community Overview page, select Community Actions > Add Apps

We can add multiple Gallery widgets to the Community. If we add multiple Galleries, each new Gallery widget appears beneath the previously added Gallery widget. We can change the order of Gallery widgets, by dragging a widget to a new location.

  3. Click a widget to add it to the Community.

  4. Close the widget palette.

A section containing the widget is added to the main pane of the Overview page, and a link to the full widget application displays in the Community navigation bar.
