Mobile reference card for Connections

A quick reference guide to the functions that we can use when we access IBM Connections from a mobile device.


Common functions

The functions available from each application, such as the Tag, Sort, and Search functions, are described in the following table:

Task Action

Return to the Home screen.

Search for items in the current application.

Change the view in the current application.

Display or hide tags. Tap a tag to search for items with that tag.

Sort items in the current application.

Expand or collapse an entry or part of an entry to show or hide its content.

Take a photo or video with the device:

  • Choose a picture

  • Choose a video

  • Take a picture

  • Take a video

Uploading files:

  • Name: Give the file a name.

  • Tags: Add tags to make the file easy to categorize and find.

  • Share with: Make the file private or publicly available.

  • The camera function is available only with the native app for your device.

  • On BlackBerry devices, take a picture or video by selecting the native Choose a picture/Choose a Video dialog.

When you work on the applications within a community, the Places icon is displayed. The Places menu lists the applications available in the community that we are currently viewing, including the following default applications:

  • Activities

  • Blog
  • Bookmarks

  • Feeds
  • Files
  • Forums

  • Members
  • Wikis

  • Updates

Log out Tap to log out of IBM Connections.


Settings

Configure settings such as server details, login credentials. Where applicable, work with log files and view the download history.

The Settings screens are available only from native apps. We cannot access these settings from the web application.

Task Action
Android To show the Settings screen on the Android device, tap the device menu button. From this screen, we can select the following options:

  • Account:

    • Server: view or edit the URL of the server where IBM Connections is hosted.

      Enter the URL in the following format: http://servername/mobile.

    • Remember Password: select or clear this check box to save or clear your password.

    • My Profile: go to the Profile page.

    • Log Out: end the current session and log out of Connections.

  • Download history: view a list of all the files that you downloaded.

  • Logging:

    • Enable logging: Select or clear the check box to enable or disable logging.

    • Log size. The default size limit is 2 MB. Enter a new size limit if necessary.

    • View logs: You have further options to refresh, clear, and export the log files.

    • Send logs: Email the log files to the Connections administrator. Your device might display several applications that can send email. Select an appropriate application, and send the files.

BlackBerry To show the Settings screen on the BlackBerry device, tap the device menu button and select Settings. From this screen, we can select the following options:

  • My Account:

    • Server: view or edit the URL of the server where IBM Connections is hosted.

    • Remember Password: select or clear this check box to save or clear your password.

    • My Profile: go to the Profile page.

    • Log Out: end the current session and log out of Connections.

iOS To show the Settings screen on the iPhone or iPad, tap the Settings icon. From this screen, we can select the following options:

  • Account:

    • Server: view or edit the URL of the server where IBM Connections is hosted.

      Enter the URL in the following format: http://servername/mobile.

    • My Profile: go to the Profile page.

    • Log Out: end the current session and log out of Connections.

Tap the Information icon to go to the About screen.

About:

  • Follow the Help link to view the Mobile Reference Card in the Connections wiki.

  • Send Logs: Email the log files to the Connections administrator.

  • Reset Logs: Clear all log files.

Home screen

When you connect from the mobile device, the default application is the Home screen from where we can access any Connections application.


Updates

The Updates page shows an aggregated view of the latest status updates and news feeds from the network of contacts.

Task Action
Update Update the status.
Status Updates Check the status of people whom we are following or who are in the network. Your own status updates are also displayed here.

Filter status updates on the following types:

  • Network and Following

  • My Network

  • I'm Following

  • All Status Updates

  • My Status Updates

We can add comments to status updates. When a status update has more than two comments, tap Show x> more comments to see all the comments for that status update, where x is the number of additional comments. When add a comment, the view changes to show that comment thread at the beginning of the list of status updates.

We can delete our own status updates and comments.

News Feed Read the latest news from people in the network and save interesting stories to the Saved Stories list.
Saved Stories News stories that you saved earlier.

Activities

Task Action

Change view to:

  • Updates

  • My Activities

  • To Do List

View the different parts of an Activity:

  • Recent Updates

  • Sections

  • To Do Items

  • Members

  • Description

Actions Within an Activity, perform the following actions:

  • Mark Complete

  • Edit Activity

  • Delete Activity

  • Medium Priority

  • Normal Priority

  • High Priority

The available Priority settings depend on the current Priority of the Activity. If the Activity is currently marked as High Priority, we can select either Normal or Medium Priority from this list.

Search Activities by:

  • Public Activities

  • My Activities

  • My Todos

Add Add:

  • Start an activity

  • Add a Section

  • Add an Entry

  • Add a To Do

Expand or collapse an Activity or part of an Activity to show or hide its content.

Sort Activities:

  • By Date

  • By Title

  • By Priority


Blogs

Task Action

View Blogs, updates, notifications, and recommendations:

  • Updates

  • My Blogs

  • My Recommendations

  • Latest Blog Entries

  • Featured Blog Entries

  • Public Blogs

  • Notifications Received

  • Notifications Sent

Add If the browser is in My Blogs page, tap Add to start a new blog.

If we are browsing one of the blogs, tap Add to create an entry for that blog.

Actions Choose a blog action:

  • Start a blog

  • Edit a blog

Search all blogs, the blogs, or the currently open blog.

Expand a blog entry to:

  • Add a comment

  • Recommend this entry

  • Edit (if we are the entry author)

  • Delete (if we are the entry author)

Sort blog entries:

  • By Date

  • By Title

  • Most recommended

  • Most Commented

  • Most Visits


Bookmarks

Task Action

Change view to:

  • Updates

  • My Bookmarks

  • My Watchlist

  • Public Bookmarks

  • Most Bookmarked

  • Most Notifications

  • Most Active People

  • Notifications Received

  • Notifications Sent

Expand a Bookmark entry to sort:

  • By Date

  • By Popularity

Search bookmarks:

  • Search public bookmarks
  • Search my bookmarks

Add Create Bookmark

Display or hide tags
Work on My Bookmarks When our own bookmark is active, we can perform the following actions on it:

  • Edit

  • Delete

  • Notify Other Users

  • More Actions (add the bookmark to an Activity, Blog, or Community

Work on Public Bookmarks When a public bookmark is active, we can perform the following actions on it:

  • Add to My Bookmarks

  • Notify Other Users

  • More Actions (Add the bookmark to an Activity, Blog, or Community or flag as a broken URL.)

Sort bookmarks:

  • By Date

  • By Popularity


Communities

Task Action

Change view to:

  • Updates

  • My Communities

  • Public Communities

When a public community is active, you have the following options:

  • Join Community

  • Leave

When a community that you belong to is active, we can select from the applications available in that community, including the following default applications:

  • Updates
  • Bookmarks

  • Feeds
  • Files
  • Forums

  • Ideation Blog

  • Media Gallery (We can view images and videos in the gallery but we cannot add any until you join the community.)

  • Members

Ideation Blog options:

  • Updates

  • My Blogs

  • My Recommendations

  • Latest Blog Entries

  • Featured Blog Entries

  • Public Blogs

  • Notifications Received

  • Notifications Sent

Ideation Blog actions When an ideation blog is active, you have the following options:

  • Add a Comment

  • Add Vote

  • Edit

  • Delete

Search communities:

  • Search public communities
  • Search my communities
  • Search by email

Sort communities:

  • By Date

  • By Popularity

  • By Title


Files

Task Action

Change view to:

  • Updates

  • My Files
  • Files Shared With Me
  • Files Shared By Me

  • Public Files

  • My Folders

  • Folders Shared With Me

  • Public Folders

Select an action to perform in the active item. The available actions depend on the state of the active item.

  • Download

  • Share

  • Add to Folder

  • Follow | Stop Following

  • Edit Properties

  • Add Comment

  • Move to Trash

Sort Files. The Files category determines which of the following filters are available:

  • Shared

  • Name

  • Updated

  • Created

  • Downloads

  • Comments

  • Recommendations

Search Files:

  • My Files
  • Files Shared With Me

  • All Files
  • Files Belonging To ...

Actions Perform the following actions on an active file:

  • Download

  • Share

  • Add to Folder

  • Add Recommendation

  • Follow

Find out more about this file:

Tap Advanced to search Profiles by:

  • Name

  • Title

  • Organization

  • City

  • State

  • Country

  • Work

  • Telephone


To Do List

Task Action

Change view to:

  • Assigned to me

  • Created by me

  • Completed To Dos

  • Incomplete To Dos

Actions Perform the following actions on an active To Do:

  • Add a Comment

  • Add a To Do

  • Edit

  • Delete

Search To Dos:

  • Public Activities

  • My Activities

  • My Todos


Wikis

Task Action

Change view to:

  • Updates

  • My Wikis

  • Public Wikis

When we are reading a page, this menu changes to:

  • Page

  • Comments

  • Attachments

  • About

  • Children

  • Pages Index

Sort Wikis by:

  • Name

  • Created

  • Updated

In the Pages Index, we can sort by Name, Updated, Visits, Recommendations, or Comments.

Search Wikis:

  • Search Public Wikis
  • Search My Wikis
