Obtaining a dump from a WAS instance
In addition to the common techniques for generating dumps that are applicable to any JVM process, WAS users may have various additional techniques available, that are specific to the WAS environment.
In particular:
- The IBM Support Assistant, when configured with the product add-ons for WAS, provides a number of automated diagnostic data collection scripts, under the Analyze Problem -> Collect Data activity. Some of these scripts can be used to trigger and collect a dump in various circumstances.
- The IBM Support organization publishes a collection of "MustGather Technotes", that explain what diagnostics to collect and how to collect them under various circumstances to deal with common problems in the WAS environment. Several of these Technotes refer to generating dumps. See the WebSphere Application Server Support web site for details, or access this information through the IBM Support Assistant's Find Information activity.
