Messages

When you encounter a message in a log or other parts of the product interface, look up the message by its component prefix to find out more information.

To open the information center table of contents to the location of this reference information, click the Show in Table of Contents button (

Information center navigation synchronization feature) on your information center border. WebSphere Application Server system messages originate from a variety of sources, including Application Server components and applications. The message identifier can be either 8 or 9 characters in length and has the form:

CCCC1234X
where:

CCCC

is a four character alphabetic component or application identifier.

1234

is a four character numeric identifier used to identify the specific message for that component.

X

is an optional alphabetic severity indicator. (I=Informational, W=Warning, E=Error)

WebSphere Application Server is in the process of converting to a new set of message IDs. The following table shows the default message IDs and the corresponding new message IDs that will become the default in a future release.

Note: The runtime error messages for WebSphere Application Server are not part of the supported programming model. While IBM intends to keep changes to the messages to a minimum during the service of a given release, updates to the message content is likely to occur between major releases of WebSphere Application Server without prior notice to you. Therefore, to avoid potential automation errors in your environment, do not develop code that is dependent on these messages.

To enable the new message IDs in your WebSphere Application Server runtime see Changing the message IDs used in log files.
