Installable components

Components that you can select during the installation of WebSphere Application Server for iSeries include the core product files, Web server plug-ins, and the Application Client.

New, more granular installation procedures simplify installation and improve installation reliability. Installation routines exist for the following components on the product disc. Separate installation procedures let you install only what you need on a particular machine:

WebSphere Application Server

This component installs the application server run time and Samples feature.

Samples feature

If you do not want to use the WebSphere Application Server samples, you can clear the check box for this optional feature.

Web server plug-ins

This component provides the necessary files and Web server plug-ins for running remote HTTP servers to access WebSphere Application Server.

Application client

This component provides the client application development and runtime portion of the WebSphere Application Server product. This component allows you to compile your client application code and run both Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) client applications and thin applications.
