Getting started with the Installation Factory

Before creating an customized installation package (CIP) or an integrated installation package (IIP), set up the IBM Installation Factory for WebSphere Application Server on your system.

i5/OS users must install the Installation Factory on a Windows platform. The Installation Factory does not run on an i5/OS platform.

Setting up the Installation Factory

• To set up the Installation Factory on your system using the code from the Web site, perform the followings tasks:

  1. Download the code from the IBM Installation Factory for WebSphere Application Server V6.1 releases.

  2. Unpack the code.

• To set up the Installation Factory on your system using the code from the product media, copy the Installation Factory code from the Supplements disc to your operating system. The setupif tool will help you to do this.

  • Run the setupif command.For example:

    setupif target_location 

Creating and installing installation packages

After you have installed the Installation Factory product you can start creating installation packages. See Installation Factory overview for more information about the types of packages you can create.
