IBM Rational Application Developer (RAD) includes portlet application development tools that provide the following capabilities:

  1. Portlet project support for the standard portlet API and the IBM portlet API.

  2. Web perspective views and editors for developing portlets.

  3. Portlet project wizard to create basic portlets, Faces portlets, and Struts portlets.

  4. Editing and validation of the portlet deployment descriptor (portlet.xml).

  5. Testing and debugging of portlets within the workbench using the WebSphere Portal Test Environment.

  6. Testing and debugging of portlets on a remote machine using the WebSphere Portal Server Attach.

  7. Visual tooling to insert portlet programming objects into JSP files, using Page Designer.
