Terms used in this book
The term IP address means either an IPv4 address in dotted decimal form (for example 9.20.9.30) or an IPv6 address in hexadecimal form (for example fe80:43e4:0204:acff:fe97:2c34:fde0:3485). However, IPv6 is not supported on Windows 2000.
The term UNIX systems denotes the following operating systems:
- AIX
- HP-UX
- Linux
- Solaris
The term WebSphere MQ for Linux denotes the following:
- WebSphere MQ for Linux (x86 platform)
- WebSphere MQ for Linux (zSeries platform)
- WebSphere MQ for Linux (POWER platform)
The term Windows denotes the following Windows operating systems:
- Windows XP
- Windows 2000
The term z/OS means any release of z/OS or OS/390 supported by the current version of WebSphere MQ for z/OS.
The term CICS means CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS/Enterprise Systems Architecture). Note that, unlike other WebSphere MQ books, this book does not use the term generically to include other CICS products such as CICS for VSE/ESA™.
The variable mqmtop represents the name of the base directory where WebSphere MQ is installed on UNIX and Windows systems.
- On AIX, the actual name of the directory is ⁄usr⁄mqm
- On other UNIX systems, the actual name of the directory is ⁄opt⁄mqm
- On Windows systems, the default directory is C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ but you might have chosen to install to a different directory.
