The migration process

This section provides an overview of the sequence of steps that are involved in the migration process.

  1. Manual migration steps

First, complete the necessary manual migration steps. These depend on the specific features that you have implemented on previously installed versions of WebSphere Portal and want to migrate to WebSphere Portal V5.1.

  2. Preparing to run the migration tasks

Then complete the steps in this section in order to run the migration tasks.

  3. Run the migration tasks

In this section, choose a set of tasks depending on how any previous installations of WebSphere Portal and WebSphere Portal V5.1 are set up. Either select to run the migration tasks with both versions running at the same time or with only one version running at a time. After you choose one of these scenarios, then choose a series of migration steps to run based on how much individualized control you want to have over the specific elements that are migrated. You can verify almost every migration task after you run it by clicking the link that is provided in each step that points to a specific section of Verifying the migration tasks.

  4. Migrating the remaining access control configuration

After you have successfully run the migration tasks, finish migrating access control.

Important note: Before you begin the migration process, install and configure WebSphere Portal V5.1. Refer to Install and Install coexisting WebSphere Portal products on the same machine for instructions.

Note the following information:

  • You should install and configure all components of WebSphere Portal V5.1 before continuing. This includes setting up the database that you plan to use, LDAP, and so on.

  • configure Lotus Collaborative Components in order to migrate Notes and iNotes portlets. See the Enable Lotus Collaborative Components section for more information.

The Optional migration steps, Migration properties, Migration tasks, and Troubleshooting sections are provided as references.
