Set the updates preference in console mode (imcl -c)

Use the update preference to search for updates to Installation Manager.

When you enable the update preference, Installation Manager searches for updates to itself when we install, modify, or update a package.

When the IBM product that we install requires a newer version of Installation Manager, we must update Installation Manager. When a newer version is required, we are prompted to update Installation Manager even if the Search for Installation Manager updates option is cleared. When the installed version is newer than the version that is included with the IBM product, Installation Manager remains at the current version. Later versions of Installation Manager are compatible with earlier versions.

Procedure

1. Start Installation Manager in console mode: imcl -c. For more information, see Start IIM in console mode.

2. Enter P: Preferences.

3. Enter 7: Updates.

4. Enter 1: Search for Installation Manager updates. A selected option is indicated by an X in brackets: [X].

5. Enter A: Apply Changes and Return to Preferences Menu.

6. Enter R: Return to Main Menu.
